Can I go long on a stock and short at the same time to avoid a daytrade? My buddy and I had a little discussion today. Basically we wanted to know if you could avoid a day trade (since day trades are limited to 3 per 5 rolling days w/o being flagged as a day trader) by take a long position on a stock and shorting it later on
